Ella Mae at Barack Obama's InaugurationJudson at University Circle pays tribute to long-time resident, Ella Mae Johnson, who passed away March 22 at age 106.

Mrs. Johnson was an inspiration to all who met her. She was a trailblazer who remained active and engaged until her final days, most notably traveling to Washington, D.C. at age 105 to witness Barack Obama’s inauguration bundled in a down, blue sleeping bag, (above right). While there, she was interviewed by the NewsHour with Jim Lehrer’s Gwen Ifill.

Her incredible story is captured in the new book, “It is Well with My Soul: The Extraordinary Life of a 106-year-old Woman," which she co-authored with Patricia Mulcahy.
